The Gary Speed thing...
All makes sense now...

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/nov/16/andy-woodward

"Bennell, now 62, was jailed for two years in May 2015 for another historic case involving a 12-year-old boy in Macclesfield and admitted in a 2012 interview with the Sunday Times that Gary Speed was one of the youngsters who stayed at his house. "

The more I think about it, football must be rife with this stuff. How many young kids under supervision from trusted adults?

I feel sick...

From that article:

"Bennell told the newspaper he had not abused Speed, but added that even if he had done he would be unlikely to admit it anyway. When the reporter told him he would be left in peace, he replied: “There's no peace now. How can you have peace when you’ve killed somebody?” "

Re: The Gary Speed thing...
In 1996, former Celtic Boys Club player Alan Brazil stated that when he was 13 years old he had been sexually abused by the club manager, Jim Torbett. The allegations were heard at the Glasgow Sheriff Court, where Torbett was found guilty of shameless and indecent conduct with three juvenile players between October 1967 and March 1974.[2] Torbett was given a prison sentence of 30 months.[3]

Apparently Jock Stein was aware and said nothing.

You'd have to think that paedos would see boys football as an opportunity.
Am guessing the checks and supervision are better than it would have been back when Speed was a kid.
Would also suspect that if stuff has gone on that clubs would sweep it under the carpet like the Catholic Church.

gank

yeah, not saying he did or didnt, but seriously? Seems like Speed was part of some of this stuff.

Something like that is definitely going to make you want to commit suicide. No matter how "together" everything seems. And you have to be an expert at hiding it all. I think Shearer was saying he was just with him a day before he did it and didn't think he had a problem.

So sad.

Happened at Celtic and I think Alan Brazil was a high profile case. As per with them, it got swept under the carpet and nobody cares.

Bennell also coached a young Alan Davies, former man utd and Newcastle winger who committed suicide at a young age.

Re: The Gary Speed thing...
He only admitted that Speed stayed there, not that he bummed him.
